    WHAT PEOPLE LOVE

Like most of Northeast Los Angeles, people love the central location. Everything – Downtown Los Angeles, Old Town Pasadena, Glendale and the Valley is within an easy access radius.

There is an educated and liberal vibe in this community. Occidental College is located here and the Eagle Rock Center for the Arts thrives. Most businesses are local shops, services and restaurants. Casa Bianca is famed for it’s pizza pies, but interesting options line Colorado Blvd.

Even the landmarks are cool! Eagle Rock isn’t just the community name, it is a huge rock visible from the freeway- there is an impression on the face that looks like an eagle in flight. The Eagle Rock Recreation Center was designed by Richard Nuetra!

    HOUSING

There are several neighborhoods in Eagle Rock. Round Top overlooks the 2 freeway. It is a tract of split level homes developed by Ray Watts in the 1960’s. There is an identical tract in Mt Washington. (this bit of super nerdy trivia comes from a kid who grew up in a Mt.; Washington Ray Watts home)

There is “North of Colorado” or the Hill Dr. neighborhood, arguably Eagle Rock’s destination area. Stately homes from the 1920’s are found along Hill Dr. and cute Craftsman and Spanish homes fill the streets nearby. There are even a few really interesting Mid Century and Aspen Chalet style homes! Coveted Dahlia Heights Elementary anchors the east end of this neighborhood.

Oak Grove is another interesting and varied neighborhood, located below Yosemite Dr. between Ave. 51 and N. Figueroa (btw, natives call it Fig. Not Fig Street, just “Fig”). The flat part contains charming and modestly sized character homes and the hills just above have contemporary view homes built in the kitchen 60’s through the 1980’s.

    SCHOOLS

Some of the public schools in the area:

    Dahlia Heights Elementary
Eagle Rock Elementary (Gifted and Highly Gifted Magnet)
Eagle Rock Jr. and Sr. High

Los Angeles Unified School District is one of the largest school districts in the country. Check the schools attached to your home of choice with the Resident School Finder Tool.
