Mother’s Day Brunch in Glendale and Beyond

(we update this post every year. check back in late April for this year’s update!)

Mother’s Day is a celebration of great food and gorgeous spring delights enjoyed by mother’s and adoring families. There are a lot of options for Mother’s Day Brunch in Glendale CA and the Foothill and, if there is anything we treasure here at DIGGS (besides cool homes), it’s great food.

We’ve compiled a list of our favorite Mother’s Day ideas – everything from delectable take home (avoid the crowds and eat at home!) to indulgent brunch and fancy, frilly tea. Weather.com is predicting sunny and mild 80ยฐ temperatures for May 12, 2019 – Mother’s Day. Perfect conditions to enjoy our amazing gardens or terrace dining ideas!

    Mother’s Day Brunch in Glendale

There is a lot to do in Glendale on Mother’s day. Take a drive (or stroll) through the original Forest Lawn. World famous art, sculpture and stain glass, as well as stunning views, made Forest Lawn a popular tourist destination well before Michael Jackson and Elizabeth Taylor were buried here. The Americana at Brand is another special spot- enjoy window (or actual) shopping or simply enjoy the Bellagio style fountain show or take a trolly ride around the grounds.

    Bourbon Steak House

Celebrity chef Michael Mina is creating quite the fabulous Mother’s Day Brunch. For a set $65 you enjoy three courses like a starter of pork belly and quail egg, a main of Lobster Benedict and a desert of Riccota Doughnuts. Reservations are necessary, but as of this moment, there is good availability for 4 around 11 AM.

    Creamy Spoon

If you like my ideas for a Mother’s Day activity but don’t want to commit to a super fancy restaurant, try my new favorite, the Creamy Spoon. Located across the street from City Hall, this French bistro has a regular brunch menu that sounds divine. So far I’ve just had their lunch and their bread was positively addictive – just like the baguettes I devoured in Paris. On a side note, Highlight Coffee is next door. Their lattes are some of the best in town.
(p.s. You didn’t hear it from me, but the parking lot for the city has lots of space and few people use it during the weekend)

    Chevy Chase Country Club

I’ve actually been wanting to check out the newly remodeled Chevy Chase Country Club in the Canyons of Glendale. I hear they are doing a Mother’s Day Brunch, but there are no real details published on the web. I can say that their regular brunch menu sounds amazing- the benedict the heck out of everything- lamb chops, short ribs, even pork belly!! Brunch on the terrace overlooking the course is a dreamy idea.

    Mother’s Day in Sunland/Tujunga

    Back Door Bakery

This gem in Sunland/Tujunga is one of our favorite eateries in the Foothills area. Backdoor Bakery is much loved and a tad unexpected – there is a hipster, granola inflected vibe to space and the menu offerings. The owner, Deborah tells me they will do their super popular flower basket cakes (4 inch and 6 inch) as well as have a rose for every Mom. Live music and a special menu for dinner are also in the works! I am a huge fan of their savory croissants and the Holly Special for breakfast. Get there early to get a spot on their tiny patio.

    Corsicaโ€™s Deli

I have been a huge fan of Mary Russo, proprietress at Corsica’s Deli, for many years. It started out as a love affair with her Muffaletta sandwich, but pretty much everything she makes is outstanding. Mary says she is making her special Chocolate Almond, Almond and Pistachio croissants for Mother’s Day. You need to order by May 4th to get ’em. While you’re at it, pick up her ready-made and frozen soups, lasagnas and more for an easy at home Mother’s Day celebration!

Mother’s Day Brunch in La Canada Flintridge

    Maple at Descanso Gardens

I love Descanso Gardens, especially during spring. Last year Stan took me to Maple for Mother’s Day Brunch and it was beyond lovely. This year The Maple is having a special Mother’s Day brunch and the menu looks out of this world. BONUS- The Pasadena Showcase House is at the Boddy House in the gardens. As of today, there are lots of tickets available for May 12.ย  Brunch at The Maple and then a tour of the Showcase House would be a Mother’s Day to remember!!

    Mother’s Day in Montrose

Perhaps you like a more relaxed Mother’s day that involves a casual brunch and a little strolling through the Montrose Harvest Market.ย  Gios, Berolina’s and etc. have casual pastries and light breakfast options. For a more extensive brunch experience, check out these Montrose favorites!

    Cafรฉ Montrose

This is the Glendale location for the fabled Lincoln (in Altadena). Cafรฉ Montrose offers sinfully rich dishes like their Pork Belly Hash or their Breakfast Bowl with white beans, sausage and poached egg. There are just a few charming tables out front, best bet is to get there early.

    La Cabinita

This is a Montrose favorite!! Get there before 10 AM or you will wait quite a while. Callย (818) 957-2711 to make reservations in advance. We love their Huevos anything, really. My husband is a fan of the Chilaquiles and I revert to my childhood when eating theirย Huevos Con Chorizo. Let’s hear it for Northeast LA natives!!!

    Black Cow Cafe

The original Montrose breakfast spot. The Black Cow Cafe has been serving coffee drinks, bakery favorites and savory dishes for as long as I can remember. Their corn flake crusted French Toast is amazing and I am a fan of their Southern Baked Skillet. The Black Cow opens at 9 AM and there is a healthy line by 10:30 AM.
