killing with kindess is a great negotiation strategy!
Melissa didn’t intend to become a crack negotiator. She has a degree in nutrition and then worked for a major natural food conglomerate in the marketing department. It was here that Melissa learned to juggle 100 balls in the air at once and she handled marketing, special events, education programs and more. She developed a reputation for being the “can do” gal. Melissa uses brains and creativity to solve problems and get results. Screaming is so overrated!
Melissa’s People Say…
What is your name and where do you specialize?
Hi, I am Melissa Van Bebber and I specialize in the La Canada, La Crescenta, Montrose and Glendale areas.
Where are you from?
I grew up in Pacoima, which is just one hill over, but I lived in Portland OR for eight years, so I also feel very connected there.
Where were you, in life, when you decided to enter real estate?
I had a very food-centered life. I worked for an upscale natural grocery store in many different functions, but I was primarily a community health educator and a marketing team leader. I had just had my second child, and was on maternity leave when I found out my job was being eliminated. My husband and I had talked about getting our licence to invest in real estate, but here was a chance to open up my ideas and consider real estate as a full-time career! I could spend more time with my baby and never have to work a holiday again…
The idea took hold and blossomed as I realized I could negotiate and find homes and make a difference for people and help them to live their happy life…. and make a happy life for myself and my family as well.
How does your previous experience help your buyers today?
I was a marketing team leader with Whole Foods Market before I was a Realtor. In that environment, there was a lot of pressure and I kept me team calm and comfortable and we were super productive. Now I bring that to work with my buyers and they feel calm and comfortable and they don’t feel pressured.
I am a pretty calm, patient and empathetic person and I think that helps my clients feel comfortable in what can be a pretty stressful situation.
What do you do when no one else is looking?
I watch an obscene amount of TV. I love to watch documentaries, period dramas, sci fi… you name it. My tastes are very broad. TV, tea and cookies- I am a happy Momma.
