A Simplified Approach to Cutting Clutter

Decluttering and simplifying your life is a lovely idea, but the practicalities are a royal pain in the you-know-what.

Some of you have read Marie Kondos’ book about the Magic of Tidying, but some of you have not stopped laughing long enough to toss anything away. You hold up an object, start asking, “does this spark….” and collapse into a pile of giggles until the impulse to declutter goes away.

I get it.

Try these 4 simple questions, instead.

  1. Do you love it?
  2. Have you used it in the last year (or two)?
  3. If lost, would you replace it?
  4. Does the item occupy more than it’s fair share of space??

So, that bread machine that you rarely use due to the evils of gluten? That puppy is taking up waaaaay more space than it deserves. But the Nespresso machine that you lovingly pet as it brews up your perfect hot caffeinated beverage each and every morning? Yup- that baby is staying put.

I hope these four questions help you pare down your clutter.
